Environmental Public Outreach

JVW Communications is knowledgeable of the local, state and federal regulatory agencies providing environmental oversight to residents and businesses. These environmental laws ensure that our natural resources are protected not only now, but far into the future.

JVW Communications has worked on projects involving water supply, water purification, wastewater conveyance, wastewater treatment, solid waste recycling, wetland restoration, seawater intrusion, desalination and membrane concentrate reclamation.

Some of the compliance regulations JVW Communications is familiar with are the Federal and California Safe Drinking Water Acts, enforced by the Department of Health Services, which establish environmental programs to protect our waters. It also directs the California Environmental Protection Agency (CEPA) to issue rules on to how implement these laws. CEPA integrates most of the state's environmental programs and the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) controls water pollution by mandating permits for anyone who emits a pollutant into state surface waters.

We are also aware of the following regulatory agencies, as our clients work to ensure compliance: Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), U.S. Department of Labor; California Regional Water Quality Control Board (RWQCB); Ventura County Air Pollution Control District (VCAPCD); and the Oxnard Fire Department Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA).

Media Relations

Media relations is essential to promote our client's programs and services, as well as build goodwill and foster understanding of critical issues among customers, community leaders and legislators. In 2002, one of our clients enlisted the services of the National Research Center to conduct a survey, which ranked the news media as the number one tool to receive information on city government projects and issues. JVW Communications provides regular news releases and public service announcements (PSA) to inform the public of our client's milestones, special events and new programs and services. News releases are written in Associated-Press style and distributed via e-mail, fax and U.S. mail to local print and broadcast media outlets. PSA’s are also distributed to area radio, television, cablevision and government access stations.


Crisis Communications

Experience shows that it pays to have a crisis communications plan to address unforeseen events, such as accidents and other emergencies, during a project of substantial size. JVW Communications can identify possible scenarios and appropriate action plans. A crisis communications plan should also include roles and responsibilities, target audiences, key messages and necessary follow-up.


Spanish Translation

With our country’s rich cultural diversity, communicating in native languages has never been more important. JVW Communications offers proficient Spanish translation services. We have translated a wide range of projects, including extensive reports, publications, public notices, legal forms, scripts, letters, telephone information lines, websites and various marketing material.


Website Design

Websites typically are the initial focal point for our clients public outreach campaigns and to this day continue to be an integral part of informing the public of the many intricate and fascinating programs and services our clients promote. It is, in other words, our client's vision. We start by listening to our clients to gather requirements and expectations. We then create two or three conceptual mockups to present to our clients so that they may visualize the direction we are considering. They can range from artistic to professional, simplistic to technology-rich. Past designs have included Flash animations, access to file transfer areas and protected areas for collaborative use between our clients and their partners.


Newsletter Distribution

A newsletter is an excellent tool to communicate news about our client's programs and services. It can also cross promote other outreach methods, such as a website, events and other printed publications. JVW Communications can coordinate the entire newsletter production from copywriting to printing as often as makes sense for your business, marketing and/or public outreach needs.


Community Meetings

Community meetings are an excellent barometer of public attitudes and perceptions. JVW Communications can organize and conduct public outreach meetings to inform residents and businesses about the projects. Meetings can be held at local venues arranged and hosted by JVW. Flyers announcing the meeting can be developed by JVW Communications and distributed to the target audience.
